Therapy | The stinky foot

Therapy

The therapy is difficult as long as the patient is not aware of the consequences for his social environment. A general general hygiene consultation should take place if the lack of hygiene is the cause of the odour. Normally, stinky feet (sweaty feet) can be completely eliminated by intensive hydrotherapy (bathing the feet in water).

Especially during the warm summer months, open shoes should preferably be worn. Daily washing of the feet is absolutely necessary for a lasting therapy success. Socks must also be changed daily.

Shoes that have become wet due to sweaty feet must be stored in such a way that they can dry off quickly. In the case of a particularly stubborn form of stinky foot, a so-called stinky foot relapse, powders are available in pharmacies that reduce the sweating (perspiration) of the feet. Furthermore an antibacterial and antimycotic (against athlete’s foot) foot spray (e.g. Efasit – foot spray) can help to eliminate odour-causing bacteria. In addition, new developments such as socks with integrated silver threads are supposed to kill bacteria and thus prevent the smell.

Prognosis

With regular application of the above mentioned therapy measures, a complete healing of the stinky foot (Pes olens) can be expected. Permanent damage is not to be expected.
