Arm Pain: Test and Diagnosis

2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Small blood count
  • Differential blood count
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein) or ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
  • Thyroid parameters (TSH, fT3, fT4) – myxedema may be the cause of carpel tunnel syndrome (KTS).
  • Highly sensitive cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) or troponin I (hs-cTnI) – in suspected angina pectoris (“chest tightness”; sudden pain in the heart area) or myocardial infarction (heart attack).
  • Infectious serology, v.a. Syphilisserology
  • CSF puncture (collection of cerebrospinal fluid by puncture of the spinal canal) for CSF diagnosis – in suspected multiple sclerosis (MS).
