Depending on the cause of the stomach pain, these accompanying symptoms are more or less pronounced. Nausea and vomiting are usually a sign of viral infections. The nausea can sometimes be so severe that each tablet for nausea is immediately vomited again.

With viral infections, diarrhoea also frequently occurs. It is then important to make sure that you drink enough fluids. In the case of food intolerances, strong flatulence is the main accompanying symptom.

They usually develop after the initial stomach pains. Heartburn is a sign of a reflux of gastric acid into the esophagus. This is normal in mild form. If the symptoms of this type are long-lasting, they should be clarified. and diarrhoea and stomach pain

Stomach pain with nausea

The symptom stomach pain has a variety of different causes, many of which can be accompanied by nausea. Biologically, it makes sense that in certain situations the body tries to empty the stomach by vomiting. The body tries to remove the substances that it perceives as harmful without having to transport them through the entire gastrointestinal tract, where they may cause even more damage.

This is especially interesting for the organism in cases of poisoning, as this protective mechanism of the body ensures survival in these situations. However, probably the most common cause of nausea with simultaneous stomach pain is the presence of an infection with bacteria or viruses. Colloquially, this is then referred to as “gastroenteritis“, while doctors refer to the disease as gastroenteritis.

Besides stomach pain and nausea, diarrhoea is one of the main symptoms of gastroenteritis. The pathogens damage the cells of the stomach through various mechanisms, which leads to nausea, among other things. For example, bacteria can produce toxins that irritate mucous membrane cells in the stomach area, which in turn “report” to the vomiting center in the brain, causing nausea or vomiting.

Most of the available substances that can be prescribed for nausea also act in this area of the brain. The presence of particularly high levels of psychological stress, a food allergy, ulcers in the stomach, or poisoning can cause nausea and vomiting in equal measure. If nausea and subsequent vomiting of black fluid is experienced, it is urgent because it is a medical emergency in which a blood vessel in the esophagus is ruptured and blood runs into the stomach.

The large amount of blood in the stomach causes stomach pain, nausea and finally vomiting of the blood. However, the blood changes its color due to the acid in the stomach, which is why the vomit appears dark. In unclear cases of stomach pain and simultaneous nausea, a doctor should always be consulted who can make a diagnosis and possibly prescribe medication that is effective against the nausea and the underlying disease.
