Accompanying symptoms: Swallowing difficulties

Swallowing difficulties often occur as an accompanying symptom of sore throat. Characteristic swallowing difficulties are a lump feeling in the throat, increased salivation and pain when eating. Severe swallowing difficulties can even be accompanied by a gag reflex during the swallowing of food, a regurgitation of already swallowed food or coughing during/after eating.

The temperature or fever can be an indication of the cause of the symptoms. In the case of a flu-like infection or a cold, in addition to sore throat and other symptoms, an elevated temperature or slight fever can occur. In the case of real flu/flu, the fever is usually high.

Fever and sore throat can also be symptoms of acute tonsillitis. If a sore throat and fever are present when nursing, a doctor should be consulted.
