Achilles Tendon Rupture: Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics, and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnosis.

  • Sonography (ultrasound examination) of the Achilles tendon:
    • To confirm the tentative diagnosis
    • To verify the indication for conservative therapy.
  • X-ray of the OSG (upper ankle joint) with hindfoot in 2 planes.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); computer-assisted cross-sectional imaging method (using magnetic fields, i.e. without X-rays); particularly well suited for imaging soft tissue injuries – in the case of unclear, chronic ruptures or difficult examination conditions (obesity).
