Mandatory medical device diagnostics.
- Radiograph of the chest (radiographic thorax/chest), in two planes [bilateral (“bilateral”) infiltrates of noncardiac origin].
- Echocardiography (echo; cardiac ultrasound).
Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the medical history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics and mandatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.
- Pulmonary capillary occlusion pressure (PCWP; pressure to be determined by pulmonary catheter, which indirectly allows determination of end-diastolic pressure in the left ventricle of the heart) – for differential diagnosis: Cardiogenic (heart-related) pulmonary edema (accumulation of fluid in the lung tissue and/or alveoli) in acute left heart failure versus ARDS [PCWP > 18 mmHg in cardiogenic pulmonary edema; PCWP < 18 mmHg in ARDS].
- Pulmonary function testing
- Computed tomography of the thorax/chest (thoracic CT).
