Aftercare | Lip correction

Aftercare

Since all methods of cosmetic lip correction are performed on an outpatient basis, there are usually no restrictions after the procedure. The swelling should go down after a few days and the pain should disappear. Sport should be avoided in the days immediately following the procedure, so that the wounds that have developed have enough time to heal without becoming too strained.

In order to support the healing process, the wound areas can be cooled both in the face and in places where tissue may have been removed. Careful lip care should also be taken by providing the lips with sufficient moisture through creams or care sticks. Sunlight should be avoided.

When staying in the sun after the procedure, lip care with sun protection factor should be applied. Smoking should be avoided for some time, as nicotine has a bad effect on wound healing. If after some time, when the lips are swollen and the wounds have healed, the patient is dissatisfied with the result, the doctor should be consulted again to make a correction. Such follow-up procedures are usually performed after about two to four weeks.

Costs

In the case of a lip correction, where lip tissue must be restored, i.e. if an accident or other violent impact has occurred, the treatment costs are fully covered by the health insurance. The application for cost coverage must be submitted to the health insurance company before the procedure. Both statutory and private health insurance companies do not cover the costs of lip corrections for cosmetic and aesthetic reasons.

The amount of the costs incurred is highly variable. Depending on the goal and the method used, the costs are more or less high. The costs include the preliminary consultation with the doctor, an allergy test if necessary, the materials used and the treatment costs.

Altogether the costs can then amount to 300 to 3 000€. However one should be conscious itself that it does not remain mostly with the unique costs.Depending on the durability of the material used, follow-up interventions are necessary at different intervals in order to maintain the effect achieved. When hyaluronic acid is used, this period is usually about half a year, the effect of autologous fat remains for about a year, collagen lasts only a few months.

However, if a follow-up procedure is performed, its costs are often lower than those of the main treatment. Here, the costs for the consultation are omitted and the follow-up procedures, which are performed for correction, are usually less expensive.
