Allergic Contact Dermatitis: Therapy

General measures

  • As far as possible, remove the triggering substance from the environment. If this is not possible, protective measures should be observed during contact, such as wearing protective gloves.
  • Skin care as well as skin protection should be used to regenerate.
  • In the acute stage, additional treatment with moist compresses, emulsions or water-rich creams can be used.
  • In the chronic stage, fat-containing creams or ointments are used.
  • Nicotine restriction (refrain from tobacco use).
  • Review of permanent medication due topossible effect on the existing disease.
  • Avoid skin contact with irritants and detergents (see Prevention for more information).

Nutritional medicine

  • Nutritional counseling based on nutritional analysis
  • Observance of the following specific nutritional recommendations:
    • Dietary measures in the case of orally ingested triggering substance.
    • Diet rich in:
      • Trace elements (selenium)
  • Selection of appropriate food based on the nutritional analysis

Physical therapy (including physiotherapy)

  • In the chronic stage, UV irradiation may be effective.
