Alternative therapy options | Healing of rosacea

Alternative therapy options

A number of alternative therapies and relaxing activities are recommended to support the drug therapy. These include sufficient sleep, walks in nature and music that is subjectively perceived as relaxing. Yoga, autogenic training and lymphatic drainage in the form of gentle massaging movements of the forehead, cheek and nose are also often perceived as helpful.

Some patients also report the positive effects of applying healing earth as a face mask, which is said to have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. A healthy and balanced diet is also important. General nutritional recommendations such as reducing the consumption of meat and sugar, a low-fat diet, sufficient intake of dietary fiber and the abundant consumption of fruit and vegetables also apply here.

A permanent elimination of superficially dilated blood vessels is also possible in some cases. Here, these are closed by laser treatment, whereupon they recede and are no longer visible. The rhinophyma (bulbous nose) can be treated by regular surgical ablation or with a CO2 laser.

Regular cleaning of the affected skin areas is important. This should be carried out with lukewarm water and only mild detergents. The face should be dried carefully, for example by gently dabbing.

We also advise against the use of highly greasy or perfumed care products. Strong sun exposure should be avoided. If this is not possible, at least the application of sunscreens with sun protection factor >20 is mandatory. The application of light make-up has no negative effect on rosacea, but has a very positive effect on the quality of life of the patients.

Triggering factors that cause redness of the face and can be very individual should also be avoided. These factors can worsen the symptoms and should be avoided or at least reduced. Triggers of a first-time occurrence can also be stress and physical exertion. Since rosacea can also spread to the eyes and can cause permanent damage, regular check-ups by an ophthalmologist are recommended.
