Aminoglycosides

Effects

Aminoglycosides (ATC J01G) have bactericidal properties. They inhibit protein synthesis by bacteria by binding to subunits of ribosomes.

Indications

  • Bacterial infectious diseases
  • Special indications (paromomycin)

Active ingredients

Aminoglycosides are not available perorally as polycations and are administered topically or parenterally. Paromomycin is taken perorally but acts locally in the intestine.
