Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of anorectal pain (anal discomfort).

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long has the pain been present?
  • When does the pain occur?
  • Does the pain exist only during defecation or continuously?
  • Have you noticed any other symptoms such as swelling of the anal area or bleeding?
  • Do you suffer from constipation?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you lost body weight unintentionally? If so, how much weight in kg in what time?

Self history including medication history.
