Anus (anus)
The anus closure prevents the stool or gases from involuntarily escaping from the intestine. This requires various mechanisms:
- Tasks Internal anal sphincter (Sphincter ani internus): This sphincter consists of smooth muscles and can therefore not be controlled intentionally,
- Functions of the external anal sphincter (Sphincter ani externus): This sphincter, which consists of transversely striated muscles, is used to maintain the stool and thus actively regulate the timing of bowel movements.
- Functions Cavernous body (Corpus cavernosum recti): If the rectal ampoule is filled to the appropriate level, this corpus cavernosum can fill up particularly well with blood and thus support the sphincter by increasing its density.
