Aphtae in the mouth
The disease of “mouth rot” was formerly called stomatitis aphtosa, because medicine at that time suspected a connection with chronically recurring aphthae. In the meantime, it has been scientifically proven that chronically recurrent (recurring) aphthae have nothing to do with the disease of gingivostomatitis herpetica, which is why the former term is considered obsolete and is no longer used. Aphthae have no viral cause and are therefore clearly distinguishable from “oral thrush
