Appendicitis: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of appendicitis (appendicitis).

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?

Social history

  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you have abdominal pain? Is this pain more labor-like or diffuse?
  • How severe is the pain?
  • Where is the pain localized?
  • How long have you had the pain?
  • Do the symptoms described occur at intervals?
  • Do you suffer from nausea and vomiting?
  • Do these complaints occur in connection with food intake?
  • Have you noticed any changes in bowel habits?
  • Have you noticed pain during urination and/or frequent urination?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Have you lost weight unintentionally recently?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
