Application of the denture adhesive cream | Denture adhesive cream

Application of the denture adhesive cream

The prosthesis should be cleaned and dried well before insertion. Apply the denture adhesive cream in small portions (strands or small dots), keeping sufficient distance from the edge. The denture should now be pressed firmly so that the denture adhesive cream can spread well and also reach the edges.

If a little of the adhesive cream is applied over the edge of the denture, too much of it has been used. The best hold can be achieved by biting for a few minutes after insertion and by avoiding eating and drinking. This measure is recommended, even if the effect starts in principle immediately.

Most of the time the desired effect can be achieved with a small amount of a denture adhesive cream, therefore you should only use a small amount at the beginning, especially if you have little experience. The adhesive cream should also be applied sparingly, as excessive concentration can impair the salivary flow or taste sensation. It is best to apply the denture adhesive cream a quarter of an hour before a meal, so that an optimal hold during the meal can be guaranteed.

The effect lasts up to 16 hours, but depends on various factors. These include eating and drinking habits, the individual shape of the palate, the fit of the prosthesis and salivation. A single application in the morning should therefore be sufficient for a whole day.

Removing a denture fixed with adhesive cream

The mouth should be rinsed with warm water or a mouth rinsing solution. Removal of the lower jaw prosthesis is usually somewhat easier than the upper jaw prosthesis. It should be possible to remove the lower prosthesis by pulling and simultaneously shaking it. In the upper jaw the thumbs are placed on the front row of teeth and then they are pressed on the top and outside.

Cleaning the prosthesis

Although the prosthesis is made of plastic and cannot get caries, it should still be cleaned in the morning and evening. Also, prosthesis wearers should visit their dentist regularly, at least once a year. Just like on your own teeth, bacteria and food residues can deposit on the denture, the remains of the denture adhesive cream further facilitate this process. This can cause unpleasant bad breath and gum inflammation.Only special cleaning agents should be used for cleaning. The residues of the adhesive agents can be removed with a soft toothbrush, lukewarm water and suitable toothpaste.
