Associated symptoms

If the pus on the tonsils is caused by a purulent tonsillitis, there are several side effects that the disease brings with it. Since the tonsils and throat are inflamed and swollen, one has difficulty swallowing and sore throat. The swelling in the throat area can even cause hoarseness and speech disorders.

The lymph nodes in the head and neck area are swollen and sensitive to pain. The inflammation and coatings on the tonsils can cause bad breath. If the inflammation attacks the body too strongly, it reacts with fever.

Fever is a natural defence mechanism of the body to fight the bacteria. In the case of whistling glandular fever, the body reacts even more strongly, one develops flu symptoms, feels weak and has body and limb pain. Children can also suffer from stomach aches. If the almond coating is caused by tonsillitis in the course of scarlet fever, additional symptoms may occur. These include strawberry tongue (red, with white coating) and a skin rash.

Duration

Acute tonsillitis can occur at any time of the year and at any age. The course and duration of the disease can vary greatly and depends on the type of treatment. In most cases, tonsillitis is easy to treat and subsides in a short period of time without consequences.

Under antibiotic therapy, the disease is usually cured after about two weeks. Even if the symptoms have already disappeared, the medication must still be taken in any case, depending on the doctor’s instructions. If the antibiotics are discontinued too early, the germs can trigger a new tonsillitis. In severe cases, however, if the inflammation is not treated properly and becomes chronic, it can last even longer than three months and then lead to other secondary diseases.

Pus on the tonsils without pain

A white coating on the almonds does not immediately mean that they are infected. It can also be almond stones, which can develop in the depths of the almonds (these are fissured and have deep furrows, so-called crypts). If they are “washed out” by the almonds, they come to the surface.

Almond stones are not painful and not dangerous, they can only cause bad breath. Once you have them, it is possible that the stones appear more often. They can, for example, be suctioned out by an ear, nose and throat specialist. Since they are not dangerous, there is no reason to remove the tonsils surgically at first.
