Associated symptoms
If a rash is due to an infection, such as Lyme disease or erysipelas, the rash is often accompanied by a general feeling of illness and fever. In the case of skin diseases such as psoriasis, further rashes are often found in other parts of the body. However, if the skin irritation is the result of a contact allergy, the rash is often the only symptom present.
If the rash is accompanied by wheals and severe itching, hives may be the cause. Hives, also called urticaria, is often a reaction to allergens, medications, but also to UV rays, sweating and heat in which histamine is released. Skin rashes in connection with neurodermatitis are also accompanied by itching.
In addition, an itchy rash can also be due to dehydration eczema or stasis dermatitis, which occurs mainly in older people. Stasis dermatitis is the consequence of chronic venous insufficiency. A rash that occurs in response to medication is usually not accompanied by itching. Skin rashes caused by infections, such as those associated with a Borrelia or HIV infection, also itch only slightly.
On forearm
Skin rashes affecting the forearm include psoriasis, which is mainly found on the extensor sides of the arms, neurodermatitis, which is manifested in the crook of the arm, (contact) allergies or syphilis. The rash of syphilis mainly affects the hands, feet and forearms. Another disease affecting the forearms is scabies, which is caused by scabies mites.
On the inside
The insides of the legs can also show other peculiarities besides the frequent skin rashes caused by allergies and insect bites. For example, a rash often develops on the inner sides of the thighs under the effect of sweat and heat.Furthermore, tight-fitting clothing or friction can also cause rashes on the inside of the legs. Dell’s warts or genital warts on the thighs can be confused with a skin rash. Also, erysipelas or nodular lichen can appear on the insides of the lower legs. The nodules and plaques occurring in the context of a sweet syndrome are mainly found on the face and on the inner sides of the legs.
