Athlete’s Foot (Tinea Pedis): Medical History

The anamnesis (medical history) represents an important component in the diagnosis of tinea pedis (athlete’s foot).

Family history

  • Are there frequent fungal infections in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What changes have you noticed in your feet? On both feet?
  • Have you noticed any softening of the spaces between your toes?
  • Are the feet dry, scaly and have fine skin cracks?
  • Are the affected area on your feet itchy?
  • How long have these changes been present?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you often walk barefoot?
  • Do you often spend time in public baths, saunas, etc.?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (circulatory disorders, diabetes mellitus (diabetes), nerve disorders, injuries to the foot).
