Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: Prevention

To prevent attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), attention must be paid to reducing individual risk factors.

Behavioral risk factors

  • Diet
    • Licorice consumption (licorice; more than 500 mg glycyrrhizic acid during pregnancy) (3.3 times more likely to develop ADHD)
    • Micronutrient deficiency of unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3/omega-6 fatty acids).
    • Micronutrient deficit of zinc
    • Micronutrient deficiency (vital substances) – see Prevention with micronutrients.
  • Consumption of stimulants
  • Psycho-social situation
    • Social stresses on the child such as neglect.
