To prevent attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), attention must be paid to reducing individual risk factors.
Behavioral risk factors
- Diet
- Licorice consumption (licorice; more than 500 mg glycyrrhizic acid during pregnancy) (3.3 times more likely to develop ADHD)
- Micronutrient deficiency of unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3/omega-6 fatty acids).
- Micronutrient deficit of zinc
- Micronutrient deficiency (vital substances) – see Prevention with micronutrients.
- Consumption of stimulants
- Psycho-social situation
- Social stresses on the child such as neglect.
