Auditory Processing Disorder: Causes

Pathogenesis (development of disease)

Auditory processing and perception disorder (AVD) is a term used to describe a variety of different impairments of hearing and perception.

AVWS is an auditory processing disorder at the brainstem level and a disorder of perception of these neural impulses. The latter is based on a disturbance of higher auditory functions involving cognitive functions. In this case, the pathogenesis lies in a dysfunction (malfunction) of the auditory pathway, although it is not excluded that it is a general central nervous processing problem. Different parts of the auditory pathway may be affected.

Etiology (causes)

Biographic causes

  • Genetic burden from parents, grandparents.

Behavioral causes

  • Consumption of stimulants
    • Alcohol – alcohol consumption by pregnant women

Causes related to disease

  • Brain lesions such as tumors in children
  • Viral encephalitis (inflammation of the brain)
  • Recurrent otitis – frequently repeated inflammation of the ear.
  • Tuberous cerebral sclerosis – genetic disease of the child that leads to retardation of the child.
  • Alcohol embryopathy – developmental disorder of the unborn child due to alcoholism of the pregnant woman.
