Auditory Processing Disorder: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing).
      • Skin and mucous membranes
    • Auscultation (listening) of the heart
    • Auscultation of the lungs
    • Palpation (palpation) of the abdomen (abdomen) (tenderness?, knocking pain?, coughing pain?, defensive tension?, hernial orifices?, kidney bearing knocking pain?)
  • ENT examination [due topossible causes: hearing loss; recurrent otitis (frequently repeated inflammation of the ear)] [due todifferential diagnosis: hearing disorders]
  • Neurological examination [due topossible causes:
    • Brain lesions such as tumors in children.
    • Viral encephalitis (inflammation of the brain)
    • Tuberous cerebral sclerosis (genetic disease of the child that leads to retardation of the child)]
  • Psychiatric examination [due todifferential diagnoses:
    • Attention/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
    • Memory disorders
    • Reduction in intelligence
    • Learning disorders
    • Language acquisition disorders]
  • Health Check
