Auditory Processing Disorder: Medical History

Medical history (history) is an important component in the diagnosis of auditory processing and perception disorder (AVSD).

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?

Social history

  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed symptoms such as reduced attention and decreased memory in your child?
  • Is your child acting out at school?
  • Does your child have problems with writing and/or reading?
  • Is your child easily distracted by environmental noise?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Does your child show regular growth and development?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (neurological diseases)
  • Operations
  • Allergies
  • Medication history

In addition to an accurate medical history, other testing procedures such as psychological and medical tests should be performed on abnormal children. Medical tests include, in particular, the testing of hearing.
