Symptoms
Baby acne is a form of acne that occurs in newborns mainly on the face during the first weeks of life. It manifests as small reddened papules, comedones and pustules.
Causes
The exact causes are not fully understood.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis is made in pediatric care on the basis of the clinical picture. Other skin diseases and lesions must be excluded (e.g., milia).
Treatment
No treatment is necessary. Baby acne resolves on its own within weeks to months. No acne medications should be given as self-medication. The face can be washed with a mild soap as part of normal hygiene.
