Baby rash after localization

The occurrence of skin rashes is not uncommon in infants and babies. A skin rash on the face is not necessarily a cause for concern either. In many cases, a conspicuous rash on a baby’s face is attributed to an infection with viral pathogens.

For example, it may be an infection with the rubella virus. This is accompanied by a characteristic rash. Skin rash in the neck area is often caused by the viral infections already mentioned. But stress and heat can also cause your baby’s neck rash.

Allergic reactions can also manifest themselves with a rash in the form of itchy wheals or inflammatory changes in the skin. Small pimples on the face, cheeks, forehead and chin are usually symptoms of baby acne. This often disappears by itself.

In the face and neck area many newborns show the so-called milk crust. The rash appears in the form of a red area and later begins to flake. The newborn rash, which appears two to five days after birth, forms reddish spots with yellowish pustules in the middle.

In principle, this rash can occur on the entire body. If reddish skin changes appear on the baby’s abdomen, this may be due to allergic reactions or mechanical irritation (e.g. rubbing the shirt against the back, etc.). There may also be a reaction of the skin to sweat.

Drug intolerances usually manifest themselves as a skin rash on the trunk, but can also occur occasionally only on the back. It is also important to pay attention to the shape of the reddish spots. Thus, converging reddish skin changes are almost always a sign of a drug reaction, while isolated reddish spots are more likely to be an indication of allergies (e.g. washing lotion or shampoo etc.).

Fungal infections, which can also lead to reddish skin changes, usually occur on parts of the baby’s body where skin lies on skin. In the groin or buttocks area, for example, a rash caused by a fungus is much more common than on the back. If the baby has eaten something else or taken a new medication before, this almost always indicates an allergic reaction.

Skin rash in the area of the abdomen and back can have different causes. It can manifest itself, for example, in the form of red spots on the back. Taking certain medicines (e.g. penicillin) can cause a rash in babies.

This rash usually spreads over the entire trunk of the body. The rash can appear immediately or a few days later after taking medication. In addition, vomiting and diarrhoea may occur.

If these symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued after consultation with your doctor. Shingles also appears in the area of the abdomen and back and is a secondary infection with the chickenpox virus. It usually begins with a slight fever, fatigue and pain in a circumscribed area of skin on the trunk of the body.

Later on, the painful area develops a unilateral and band-shaped skin rash, which is formed by densely packed blisters. In the case of the ringworm caused by a skin fungus, the rash consists of one or more rings that are very itchy. The rash usually starts with a small area and widens with time.

The smallpox virus can cause a skin rash in the area of the abdomen and breast – the molluscicles. The skin rash of molluscum contagiosum is in the form of round white or pink elevations of the skin arranged in groups. These may have a depression in their center or a pus head.

Scratching should be avoided in order not to cause inflammation. Rashes on the buttocks are very common in babies. A distinction is made between an allergic and a mechanical cause.

Infectious causes can also lead to a rash on the bottom. Allergies may be caused by the diapers used or by various substances, lotions or shampoos. Usually a reddish and often itchy rash develops in the baby shortly after skin contact.

The baby starts to cry and is restless. Mechanically, strong rubbing of the diaper etc. can cause a reddish skin rash.

As an infection-related skin rash, fungal infestation is very common in babies. Mostly in the groin or on the buttocks, a fungal infection leads to very severe itching and burning, the skin in the buttocks area is strongly reddened, the babies are extremely restless and cry a lot. The diagnosis is usually made as a gaze diagnosis or by a skin smear, which then detects the corresponding fungus. The treatment is done with fungicidal ointments.
