Back pain | Ligaments of the spine – anatomy

Back pain

Back pain can occur as a result of injury or disease of the ligaments of the spine. Overstretching of the spinal ligaments can lead to back pain. But also more serious injuries of the ligaments can occur.

In the case of greater shearing movements, the ligaments of the spinal column can tear or tear completely. However, this does not occur frequently. If the ligaments no longer stabilize the spine in its normal position, the vertebral bodies can shift against each other.

This leads to a narrowing of the spinal cord, which can also cause severe back pain. The article Physiotherapy for Scoliosis might also be of interest to you in this regard. As already mentioned, inflammation can also lead to the back pain symptomatology.

Inflammations in the context of ankylosing spondylitis initially affect mainly the lower lumbar region. The so-called sacroiliac joint (ISG) between the pelvic shovel and the coccyx is affected. If the back pain is caused by other inflammations, it can manifest itself in the entire spinal column area.
