Bandage

A bandage can be used as a supportive measure to relieve pain in the case of tibial edge syndrome. In contrast to its best-known effect, the bandage serves to stabilize the joints rather than to promote blood circulation and generate heat. It is important that the bandage is wrapped correctly so that it is neither too tight nor too loose.

The width of the massage and the tension are also important. Therefore, you should consult a specialist in case of using the bandage. Although the bandage can help to reduce the symptoms, it is important that those affected still take it easy on the leg and refrain from sports. The bandage should also not be worn overnight, but only when the patient is active, otherwise problems may occur. It is best to discuss with your doctor or therapist whether a bandage is a sensible addition to therapy for your situation.

Ointment

Symptomatically, tibial edge syndrome can also be treated with various ointments. These have the advantage that they can be applied precisely to the painful area. The disadvantage is that the ointments only work locally and do not penetrate deep enough into the skin to treat the problem at its source.

The ointments only penetrate superficially through the first skin layers and are then absorbed by the lymphatic system. The primary aim of using ointments is to treat pain and to have a limited anti-inflammatory effect. The treatment of choice for tibial edge syndrome are ointments containing the active ingredient diclofenac, which has both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Another possibility is treatment with a heat ointment such as Finalgon or Teufelskrallen Salbe. The resulting heat promotes blood circulation and can thus relieve pain. However, not everyone can tolerate the feeling of a warming ointment on the skin, allergic reactions are also possible.

In addition to these ointments, there are also applications from homeopathy, for example arnica ointment or Traumeel cream. These also help to contain inflammatory processes and relieve pain. However, even the use of an ointment should not be considered a panacea, as it does not, as already mentioned, eliminate the cause of the problem.
