Barium carbonicum

Fields of application

Fields of application of Barium carbonicum (sometimes also: Baryta carbonica) are developmental disorders and delays in children, which can affect both physical and mental aspects. Barium carbonicum can also help with dementia of elderly people whose behaviour becomes “childlike” again. It is therefore mainly used either very early or very late in life. It can also be used for degenerative diseases of the heart, circulation and vessels. Furthermore, it has been proven to be effective in the case of enlarged tonsils in the throat.

For which diseases can it be used?

The two major diseases for which Barium carbonicum is used are on the one hand the dementia or states of confusion and memory disorders of elderly people. On the other hand, the application has proven to be effective in cases of disturbed mental or physical development of children, as well as in cases of lack of self-confidence and extreme shyness, especially in front of strangers. Other diseases that can be alleviated by the administration of Barium carbonicum are mild colds accompanied by swelling of the lymph nodes or tonsillitis. In addition, heart complaints, especially palpitations, high blood pressure (while the person’s face is pale!) and arteriosclerosis are among the treatment areas of Barium carbonicum.

For which symptoms can it be used?

Barium carbonicum can be used for the following leading symptoms: These include infantile behaviour inappropriate to age, lack of self-confidence, indecision and forgetfulness. Poor comprehension is also one of the typical symptoms of Barium carbonicum. Other areas of application include the typical problems of old age such as arteriosclerosis, cataracts (clouding of the lens in the eye), hearing loss and circulatory problems such as (inexplicable) dizziness. It can also be used for recurrent or long-lasting to chronic tonsillitis, swelling of the lymph nodes, a tendency to colds and rapid freezing.

In which organs does it work?

Barium carbonicum acts mainly on the brain and the mind. Besides this pronounced neurological (nervous) effect, it also has an effect on the heart. Here it can help especially with a weak heart (e.g. noticeable by palpitations) and arteriosclerosis (note: the latter clinical picture should not be treated exclusively homeopathically if necessary – in most cases blood lipid lowering drugs are prescribed additionally!)

It also has an effect on glands in the body, especially the lymph glands. These include the lymph nodes. If these are swollen, for example due to a flu-like infection or a mild cold, the administration of Barium carbonicum can also be helpful.

Common dosages of Barium carbonicum

The proven dosage of Barium carbonicum is D12 for the treatment of neurological problems. It is recommended to take it twice a day, the dosage varies depending on the severity of the symptoms. Usually the dosage starts with a minimum of two globules per intake.

The treatment can be continued until an improvement is achieved. Since Barium carbonicum tends to cause slow changes, it should not be avoided to take it for a longer period of time. Potency D12 is also indicated for high blood pressure (and simultaneous paleness of the person), also with two globules twice a day.

If tonsillitis or enlargement of the lymph nodes is to be treated, a potency such as D30 should be used. This is then used over five days with two times two globules.
