A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:
- General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; furthermore:
- Inspection (viewing).
- Skin and mucous membranes
- Eyes [painful lump at the lid margin with redness and swelling, purulent secretion, pseudoptosis (apparent drooping of the eyelid), conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva), chemosis (edema of the conjunctiva)]
- Inspection (viewing).
- Ophthalmological examination [due topossible sequelae: Chalcion (hailstone), lid abscess (formation of an encapsulated collection of pus), lid phlegmon (diffuse inflammation of the connective tissue)].
Square brackets [ ] indicate possible pathological (pathological) physical findings.
