Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment

Introduction

Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment is used to support wound healing in the case of diseases and injuries in the area of the eyes and the nasal mucous membrane. It is a freely available product that can be purchased without prescription in pharmacies. It contains the active ingredient dexpanthenol, which is similar to a substance found in the body’s own skin and promotes the healing process.

Indications

There are different indications for the use of the eye and nose ointment of Bepanthen®, whereby the promotion and support of the body’s own wound healing is always in the foreground. In the area of the nose the main indication is a dry, cracked nasal mucosa. The indication is both for an allergic (e.g. hay fever) and a cold-related cause.

The ointment can promote a lasting regeneration of the mucous membrane. In the eye, the indication for the application of Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment arises when there is superficial damage to the conjunctiva or the cornea. Here too, however, the ointment can only support the natural healing processes of the body.

In some cases, injuries or inflammations in the area of the eye can be treated specifically against the causative agent. In case of more pronounced or painful changes in the area of the eyes, a doctor should therefore be consulted as a precaution. Especially for the eyes: Bepanthen® eye dropsTo be effective in treating herpes, Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment should not be used alone.

To directly combat the viruses that cause the herpes blisters, an ointment with a special active ingredient (acyclovir) is necessary. Common ointments are Zovirax® or Activir®. Nevertheless, the use of Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment for herpes can be useful to promote the healing of burst or scratched blisters.

In conjunctivitis, Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment can promote and accelerate the healing process. Symptoms such as burning and itching can be alleviated by the application. In some cases, however, a specific treatment of the inflammation, for example with eye drops, is necessary.

If the symptoms are pronounced or do not improve, a doctor should therefore be consulted. Although Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment is actually intended for use on the eyes or nasal mucous membranes, it also helps to treat dry lips. The cream is slightly oilier than other lip care products, which some people find annoying and others find more pleasant. It is best to simply try the cream on your lips to form your own opinion.

Effect and active ingredient

Bepanthen® eye and nose ointment contains dexpanthenol as the active ingredient. It penetrates the skin and unfolds its effect on the cells by accelerating their regeneration. This supports the natural healing process of damaged skin and promotes faster healing.

By applying the ointment, the reconstruction of the natural skin protection barrier is stimulated. The active ingredient dexpanthenol is structurally related to pantothenic acid and has the same biological effectiveness. Pantothenic acid and its salts are vitamins which are involved in a multitude of different metabolic processes in the cells.

In the case of damaged skin or mucous membranes, the dexpanthenol contained in Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment can compensate for the increased need for pantothenic acid. However, it is always provided that the natural regenerative capacity of the skin is guaranteed. In case of very severely injured skin or a pronounced inflammation, even the application of the ointment may not be able to heal. In such a case it may be necessary to consult a doctor. Bepanthen® Eye and Nose Ointment does not contain any other active ingredients, dyes, fragrances or preservatives.
