Bilateral almond pain

Almond pain occurs in most cases on both sides. Therefore, it is not possible to differentiate between inflammation by bacteria or viruses, for example. The diagnosis and, if necessary, therapy must be based primarily on the throat examination by the family doctor.

Prognosis

As a rule, an inflammation underlying the almond pain heals without consequences. In the case of viral diseases, symptomatic treatment with home remedies, physical rest and, if necessary, pain-relieving medication is sufficient. In the case of inflammation caused by bacteria, a good prognosis can also be expected if the correct antibiotic (usually penicillin) is administered in good time.

However, if an appropriate antibiotic therapy is not given for amyotropic tonsillitis due to bacterial-induced tonsillitis, the prognosis may be different. In addition to possible complications such as a dangerous spread of the inflammation in the throat area, secondary diseases of the kidneys, for example, can also occur. In some people, tonsillitis also causes more frequent tonsillitis pain. From a certain frequency, surgical removal of the tonsils (tonsillectomy) should be considered.
