Black Mask

Products

Black Masks (peel-off) are available from various suppliers in retail and specialty stores and web stores. On the Internet, instructions circulate on how to make Black Masks yourself with white glue, glue and activated carbon. However, from our point of view, this is strongly discouraged.

Structure and properties

A Black Mask is a black face mask that exists as a slightly viscous liquid and dries and becomes solid after being applied to the skin. It usually gets its black color from elemental carbon (e.g., CI 77266, carbon black, activated carbon). The masks contain a plastic such as polyvinyl alcohol, which becomes solid when exposed to air. Various cosmetic active ingredients are added.

Effects

The masks have facial cleansing, pore cleansing, smoothing and refreshing properties. They remove blackheads, impurities, the upper corneal layer and sebum.

Fields of application

For facial care, against impure skin and blackheads.

Dosage

According to the manufacturer’s instructions. The face is cleaned with warm water and dried. The mask is applied thickly, covering and evenly and left to dry for 15 to 30 minutes. Avoid the eye area. Do not apply to hair or lips. Then peel off the mask starting from the forehead to the chin and cleanse again with water. Use once or twice a week.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Application on diseased or injured skin
  • Application on the eyes, hair or eyebrows
  • Contact with the eyes, lips and mucous membranes.
  • Use in children

Avoid contact with clothing. About the full precautions inform the manufacturer.

Adverse effects

Removal may cause pain. The masks can irritate the skin, cause redness and allergic reactions. There is also criticism that the protective skin barrier is disrupted by use and becomes more susceptible to infection.
