Bleeding from the Airways: Lab Test

Laboratory parameters of the 1st order – obligatory laboratory tests.

  • Small blood count (platelet count?).
  • Differential blood count
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein) or PCT (procalcitonin).
  • Coagulation parameters – PTT, Quick

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and mandatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Blood gas analysis (ABG)
  • D-dimers – if pulmonary embolism is suspected.
  • Sputum examination (microbiology) – e.g. suspected tuberculosis.
  • Autoantibody screening (antinuclear antibodies (ANA); (cytoplasmic anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (c-ANCA); perinuclear anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (p-ANCA); antibodies against double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (ds-DNA-AK)) – to clarify immunological or vasculitic causes.
