A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; furthermore:
    • Inspection (observation) of the skin [due tosymptoms: small swellings (due to bites of the louse); scaly skin areas (vagabond skin) after the itching subsides].
