Bork Lichen (Impetigo Contagiosa): Drug Therapy

Therapeutic targets

  • Elimination of the pathogens
  • Support the healing process

Therapy recommendations

  • Dressing (should be changed twice daily): dab hardness with olive oil: remove crusts; open pustules and blisters with cannula.
  • Local therapy (local therapy): 2% quinolinol ointment (if necessary also: polyvidone iodine ointment) or a disinfecting soft zinc paste; local antibiotics, e.g. fusidic acid, getamicin come into use.
  • Disinfectant baths for hands and feet (eg, potassium permanganate, quinosol 1:1,000 or polyvidone iodine solution).
  • The affected skin areas should be covered with gauze. As far as hands are affected, these should be covered by a tubular bandage, so that the transmission of bacteria by scratching the fingers (= autoinoculation) is avoided.
  • In case of stronger spread and recurrences (recurrence of the disease) may require systemic therapy (see under Staphylococcus / drug therapy or Streptococcus / drug therapy).
  • See also under “Further therapy”.
