Botox

Another method to reduce wrinkles is the injection of Botox. Botox is a neurotoxic poison, which is extracted from the bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. The neurotoxin prevents the transmission of the excitation conduction of nerve cells and therefore leads to weakness of the muscles.

This effect is used in the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles. The procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in a doctor’s office on an outpatient basis. An expert doctor injects a few milliliters under the skin.

Wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes and hanging wrinkles at the corners of the mouth are particularly suitable for this application. A very good effect can be seen in wrinkles that are not yet too deep. Fine and more superficial wrinkles may disappear completely after the treatment.

However, as the effect diminishes after a few months, it must be repeated regularly to maintain the desired effect. No serious side effects are to be expected if used correctly. The injection may cause redness and swelling due to irritation of the skin.

In some cases, minor bruising may occur at the injection site. These can be avoided by cooling the affected skin area afterwards. In the case of injections near the eyelid, a drooping eyelid may be the result of overdosage or incorrect use.

In general, however, this occurs very rarely. The cost of treatment varies and depends on the amount of Botox used. The treatment costs are about 100 to 150 Euro. The treating physician can tell you the exact costs of a treatment and further applications.

Wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid

A similar method to Botox offers an injection of hyaluronic acid into the wrinkles. This is an endogenous substance that is mainly found between the cells in the extracellular matrix. Hyaluronic acid binds water, which causes the tissue to increase in volume and swell.

This effect is used in the treatment of wrinkles. With a thin needle, preparations, which usually contain between one and three percent hyaluronic acid, are applied to the wrinkles. This increases the content of the substance in the tissue. More water is to be attracted so that the furrows created by the wrinkles are filled again.

The treatment is usually very well tolerated, as it is a substance produced naturally in the body. By using mostly quite thin cannulas, hardly any pain is caused. Smaller bleedings and swellings can occur, which disappear after a few hours or days. Here, too, cooling in time after the injection can prevent larger bruises. Since the hyaluron is also broken down by the body after some time, the application must also be repeated after four to twelve months.
