Botulism: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of botulism.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • How long has this symptomatology been present?
  • Have you noticed any changes in vision?
  • Do you suffer from dry mouth, have difficulty swallowing?
  • Have you noticed a limitation of mobility?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you eaten any foods from canned foods and/or preserving jars in the past few days? If so, what foods were they? Did you notice any change in the canned food (odor, taste, etc.)?
  • Did you give the infant any foods mixed with honey?

Self history including medication history.
