Bowel movement after each meal- What can it be?

In principle, bowel movements more or less immediately after eating are not unusual. While eating, intestinal activity and digestion are stimulated. In order to gain space for the newly taken food, the urge to defecate arises.

Since it is not unusual to have bowel movements up to three times a day, depending on diet and predisposition, bowel movements after each meal need not have a dangerous cause. However, food intolerances can also lead to increased bowel movements, especially after eating. Food intolerances are usually accompanied by stomach aches and diarrhoea. In addition, the complaints only occur if the food contains these foods, such as dairy products. If food intolerance is suspected, a doctor should be consulted for clarification.

Why do people often have bowel movements after coffee?

Coffee has a stimulating effect on the metabolism and has a number of different effects on digestion and stimulates it. On the one hand, coffee stimulates acid production in the stomach, so that the chyme is broken down more quickly there. In addition, coffee stimulates the gall bladder and the intestines. This explains the slightly laxative effect of coffee.

Burning after bowel movement

There are different causes for burning after or during bowel movements. On the one hand, proper hygiene must be observed to avoid burning after defecation. However, it is important not only to pay attention to a thorough hygiene after the bowel movement, but also not to clean too much.

Because even too thorough hygiene, if the skin is “chafed” and thus becomes inflamed, can lead to skin irritations, which cause a burning sensation in the weakened anal mucosa. On the other hand, diseases such as hemorrhoids or anal fissures can also be a cause of burning. In hemorrhoids, the burning sensation is usually accompanied by itching and bright red blood in the stool.

Anal fissures are small cracks in the mucous membrane. If stool passes these fissures, it causes a burning sensation during and after bowel movements. In addition, inflammation can occur when germs enter the bloodstream via the fissures.

More rarely, worm infections lead to a burning sensation after defecation. However, these should be considered after a long journey to mainly “tropical” countries. Very rarely anal cancer is the cause of anal burning.

In addition, the consumption of spicy foods, especially chili (pods), pepperoni or a lot of pepper can cause a burning sensation after bowel movements. This is harmless and usually disappears completely if you refrain from eating spicy foods. If burning sensation persists for a longer period of time after defecation, a doctor should be consulted. If the itching, which often accompanies the burning sensation, is given way, cracks in the anal mucosa can develop, which lead to increased burning sensation during bowel movement.
