Pathogenesis (development of disease)
The bleeding duration is shorter than three days in brachymenorrhea. The cause is usually ovarian (ovary-related).
Etiology (causes)
Behavioral causes
- Overweight (BMI ≥ 25; obesity).
Disease-related causes
- Anorexia nervosa (anorexia nervosa)
- Chronic endometritis (inflammation of the uterus).
- Endometrial anomaly – congenital changes in the lining of the uterus.
- Hormonal disorders such as ovarian insufficiency – functional weakness of the ovaries.

Operations
- After forced curettage – after a scraping in which deeper layers of the endometrium were injured.
Other causes
- Hormone-coated intrauterine device (contraceptive coil).
