Breast Augmentation: Treatment, Effect & Risks

Many women choose it for aesthetic reasons, for others it is a medical necessity: breast augmentation.

What is breast augmentation?

Risks, side effects and dangers

Like any other surgery, breast augmentation is accompanied by the usual surgical risks. More relevant, however, is the risk of capsular fibrosis, which occurs in four to 15 percent of all cases.

The human body tends to encapsulate foreign bodies with a capsule consisting of scar tissue. These can harden and lead to pain and, in the worst case, deformation of the breast. It should also be noted that breast implants are not lifelong devices; 20-40 percent of all breast augmentation patients are expected to require re-treatment within 10 years. On the other hand, there is no fear of an increase in the risk of breast cancer.

Other symptoms and discomforts that may occur after breast augmentation include: Bruising, swelling, breast tenderness, pain around the surgical wound.
