California poppy ( Cham., Papaveraceae, also ) is an annual herb native to California and Mexico that was traditionally used by Native Americans as a sedative and pain reliever. In Europe, the poppy is known mainly as an ornamental plant.

Medicinal drug

The dried flowering California poppy herb (golden poppy herb, Eschscholziae herba) is used as the medicinal raw material. The herb is used to make the powder contained in the capsules (Eschscholziae californicae herbae cum flore pulvis).

Ingredients

  • Alkaloids such as californidine, allocryptopine, protopine, escholzine.
  • Essential oil
  • Cyanogenic glycosides

Effects

The preparation is believed to have sedative, sleep-inducing, anti-anxiety and antispasmodic properties.

Indications for use

Traditionally used for nervous tension and to promote sleep in mild sleep disorders.

Dosage

According to the professional information. Two capsules are taken with dinner and two capsules are taken before bedtime, each with a glass of water.

Contraindications

Adverse effects
