Camouflage: Decorative Cosmetics for Stubborn Cases

Covering skin imperfections under decorative makeup has long been routine for many women. But if someone has a port-wine stain on his or her face, the only choice he or she has had so far has been to put up with it. Today, cosmetic surgery can help in many cases. But what if they also fail? Then camouflage can be a solution.

Why camouflage makeup?

Extreme changes in the skin – the exact opposite of the ideal of flawless beauty – significantly affect the self-esteem of those affected. Some of these abnormalities can be addressed today with surgical techniques.

But full elimination of the disorder is not always possible. In the case of quite a few congenital anomalies, medicine can only help if the operation is performed in early childhood.

That is why in most cases one will resort to a combination of medical and cosmetic techniques – camouflaging.

Examples of applications for camouflage

  • Dark circles under the eyes, thick bags under the eyes.
  • Extensive, scarred burns, noticeable accident scars.
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Vitiligo (white, pigment-free, usually growing larger spots).
  • Port-wine stains (usually congenital light to dark blue spots).
  • Stretch marks, spider veins (dilated smallest veins).
  • Covering tattoos
  • Age spots

Camouflage makeup

Camouflage (French: camouflage) is used to cover, conceal or disguise color-deviating skin imperfections. This requires special cosmetics (wax-oil based) that are stronger than conventional makeup in covering skin anomalies and are highly resistant to water, heat and abrasion.

Such products, which have been around since the late 1970s, are well suited to concealing eye rims, varicose veins, couperose and port-wine stains. Other uses include covering tattoos as well as occasions when long-lasting makeup conditions are required (for example, dance sports and bridal makeup).

Ideal as a durable day makeup for all occasions.

Even during sports, sunbathing and even swimming, the make-up lasts for about 24 to 36 hours. As a result of the wide variety of natural shades – currently more than 60 shades are available – Camouflage is suitable for all skin types.

The preparations are kind to the skin and are perceived as pleasant. They are easy to apply, odorless and can be used on any part of the body. Anyone who suffers from skin blemishes and consequently feels mentally inhibited because of their appearance can get quick help with Camouflage.

The main variants for camouflage

  • Red spots (port-wine stains, scars, burns).
They are neutralized with green, the complementary color of red. Therefore, before covering, a greenish camouflage cream is applied very thinly to the affected areas.
  • Blue spots (hematoma, bruises, varicose veins).
First, the bluish skin discoloration is lightened with a color much lighter than your own skin tone (almost white). The edges are smudged into the surrounding area with a cotton swab. On top of this comes the actual cover.
  • White spots (vitiligo, scars).
They are pre-tinted with a tanning lotion. Thus, you need much less concealer.
  • Brown spots (pigment spots, age spots, eye rims).
Dark spots are camouflaged with a flat brush inward lighter. As a second color over it, you choose a rosier shade than your own skin tone, so that the coverage in the end naturally adapts to the environment.
