Can I do such a test myself?
The unauthorized performance of a troponin test is not recommended. The first problem is blood collection, which should be difficult for most people without medical personnel. Even if the blood draw works and the test can be filled, the question arises as to what consequence a positive test result has for the patient. The next step is to put the patient under medical care anyway, which means that all the previous steps are an unnecessary risk. If the symptoms are similar, one should always contact a hospital, regardless of whether a diagnosis could not be made during the last visit.
How much does a troponin test cost?
If there is a reasonable indication for the performance of the troponin test, the costs are covered by the statutory health insurance companies. However, only a physician can make the request for cost coverage if desired. Various rapid tests are also offered on the Internet, which are traded between 3 and 6 euros per test.
Not included, however, are needles and collection tubes, which are also required for blood collection. More complex systems for determining the troponin value are much more expensive and are not made for private use.
