Can this be a sign of pregnancy?
Flank pains are rather untypical as signs of pregnancy. Especially in early pregnancy flank pain is not to be expected. In the later course of the pregnancy, flank pain can sometimes occur when the growing child takes up more space in the mother’s abdomen.
This puts pressure on the mother’s internal organs and the abdominal cavity must widen. This can always be painful and can also cause pain in the flank area. Since, however, other causes can also be hidden behind the complaints, which do not necessarily have to be directly related to the pregnancy – for example inflammation of the renal pelvis – flank pain during pregnancy should definitely be clarified by a doctor.
