Can this be done on an outpatient basis?
The restoration of the hymen is performed on an outpatient basis. This means that you do not have to stay in hospital, but can go home the same day. On the day after the operation, you must return to the surgery or hospital for wound control and dressing changes. Downtime at work is not necessary.
How long does a hymen reconstruction take?
The procedure takes about 30 to 45 minutes. If the remains of the remaining hymen are not sufficient for reconstruction, it may take longer – up to an hour. In such a case, the surgeon uses the tissue from the posterior vaginal wall to model a new hymen.
What are the costs of a hymen reconstruction?
The cost of a hymen reconstruction varies from 750 to 3000 Euros. The price depends, among other things, on the clinic or practice where the procedure is performed. There are always doctors who want to profit from the culturally influenced fears of the affected women and set an arbitrary price.
Another aspect is the type of anesthesia. Patients usually pay more for general anesthesia than for local anesthesia. Another component is the complexity of the procedure.
If there are not enough remains of the star-shaped torn hymen, the hymen has to be reshaped. This is more expensive than a simple reconstruction. In general, the health insurance does not cover the costs of hymen reconstruction.
Can this be done without surgery?
Since the reconstruction of the hymen is only about pretending to be virgin, there are alternatives that cause bleeding during sexual intercourse and thus “prove” the virginity of the woman in the cultural sense. These are artificial hymenas with blood implants. These are inserted into the vagina before intercourse and cause a slight bleeding.
However, the bleeding triggered here is regulated by body temperature. It is therefore possible that bleeding has already occurred without sexual intercourse having actually taken place.
