Can X-rays interfere with a desire for pregnancy?

As a rule, X-rays cannot interfere with a desire for pregnancy. The radiation that affects the unfertilised eggs during an X-ray is too low to damage them. In addition, most X-rays even include a lead shield that covers the ovaries, so that they are virtually not exposed to radiation.

In general, radiation mainly damages cells that divide frequently. These include the egg cells, but even if one of them is damaged by an X-ray, there are still many more eggs at rest in the ovary that will not divide again until the next cycle. Only a very high radiation exposure, such as the radiation of a tumor, can interfere with the desire for pregnancy.

The doctor will always discuss this with you before the treatment. If you are already trying to become pregnant, X-rays should still be avoided, as they could impair the implantation of a fertilized egg and harm the unborn child.
