Capsules
Vagisan® is available both in capsules for oral administration and capsules for local application in the vagina.The oral capsules include the Vagisan Biotin lacto capsules which are supposed to stabilize the vaginal environment. The Vagisan® vaginal capsules contain lactic acid bacteria and are intended to restore the acid vaginal environment. The vaginal capsules are particularly suitable for women whose vaginal flora is permanently disturbed and should be rebuilt.
They should be used for 8-10 days, but can also be used over a longer period of time. In the evening 1 capsule should be inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina. The Vagisan® lactic acid bacteria are available in a pack size of 10 pieces, the pack costs about 16 Euro.
The daily therapy costs therefore amount to about 1.60 Euro. The preparation can be purchased without prescription. If a cash prescription is presented however the price is reduced to 5 Euro per prescription.
Biotin lacto
Vagisan® Biotin lacto are capsules to be taken orally. They contain biotin and lactic acid bacteria and are intended to stabilize the environment of the vaginal mucosa. Vagisan® Biotin lacto is considered a food supplement.
One capsule should be taken daily unchewed with a sip of water. Application is also possible during pregnancy. 30 Biotin Lacto capsules from Vagisan® cost just under 19 euros. The daily costs are therefore about 60 cents.
Intimate wash lotion
Vagisan® Intimate Wash Lotion is a gentle washing lotion used to cleanse the outer intimate area. This is due to the fact that disturbances in the outer genital area, for example through incorrect care, can also affect the inside of the vagina. For example, infections can occur more frequently.
Vagisan® intimate washing lotion is used daily and like a normal washing lotion in the intimate area. 100 ml of the Vagisan® intimate washing lotion cost just under 6 euros. It is available without prescription.
Application and side effects
Moisturizing creams such as Vagisan® only have a symptomatic effect, so they have no influence on the cause of vaginal dryness. Usually Vagisan® moisturizer is applied once a day. If the symptoms improve, the frequency of application can be reduced.
The use of a panty liner during the application period is recommended. A slight burning sensation after application of the moisturizer is completely harmless. Such side effects are frequently observed when applying gels in the genital area.
In case of very strong burning sensation and long lasting burning sensation for more than 5 – 10 min, further application is not recommended. The genital area should then be washed with lukewarm water. When used over a long period of time, an habituation effect or even increasing dryness of the vaginal mucosa is sometimes reported.
The safety of condoms is not affected during the application period of the moisturizer. Likewise, application during pregnancy or while breastfeeding is safe.
