Care of the navel piercing

The pricked navel piercing is treated with a sterile plaster. At home it must be changed regularly during the first days, it is recommended twice a day. It must also be cleaned thoroughly each time it is changed.

Here also a thorough hand washing is necessary. First remove the encrusted areas with a clean cotton cloth or cotton ball and water. Then the piercing and the skin is treated with disinfection spray to remove bacteria or germs.

This is extremely important to prevent infections/inflammations, which can otherwise end up in a removal of the navel piercing or even worse consequences. Normally the navel piercing heals within about one month. In order for it to heal quickly, you should pay attention to the following in the first weeks: Please note that a complete healing can sometimes take months. New jewellery may only be worn after about 2 months. – Do not wear tight clothing around the stomach

  • Do not go to a solarium
  • Do not go into the swimming pool
  • No bath, just a shower
  • Disinfect regularly

Duration of the healing process

The belly button piercing is a piercing which heals very cumbersome, because the belly button is exposed to a lot of movement, bending, running etc. and different clothes. The scar needs a lot of care and hygiene.

The healing time of the navel piercing is about four to six months. In case of heavy strain the healing period can last more than a year. In case of a newly pierced navel piercing the jewellery may only be changed after complete healing.

Costs for piercing a navel piercing

The costs for piercing a navel piercing in a hygienic environment are on average between 20 and 60€. Depending on the piercing studio costs for the navel piercing can be added or included in the price. Usually there is a total price for the first jewellery, the piercing and the care products for the first days after the piercing.

Risks

A belly button piercing must not be pierced on women/girls who are very thin. This is because there is a high abdominal wall tension and the pierced skin can heal badly. Pain is a common “side effect”.

However, every patient feels pain differently and therefore no prediction can be made about the strength of the pain. To reduce the pain when piercing many piercing studios use cooling packs. Cooling packs can also be taken at home after the piercing to cool down the pain.

Other risks are the above mentioned inflammations. By insufficient hygiene the stung skin can become inflamed. In the worst case, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause blood poisoning.

However, this is rather rare. In case of an inflammation, a doctor should always be consulted. Red spots around and above the navel Swelling and redness can also occur, but these can usually be controlled quite quickly by cooling.

Also risks are: If the belly button piercing is not regularly brought into another position, it threatens to grow in and cannot be moved afterwards. Therefore you have to take care that the bellybutton piercing is regularly brought into another position. – Bruises
