Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What changes have you noticed?
  • How long have these changes existed?
  • Do you suffer from hand numbness, painful paresthesias, paralysis, or pain in the hand/forearm area?
  • Do these changes always exist or only after certain activities?
  • Do you wake up at night due to pain/numbness in the area of your hand?
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is very mild and 10 is very severe, how severe is the pain?
