Medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of cataract (cataract).
Family History
- Is there a history of frequent eye disease in your family?
Social history
- What is your profession?
- Are you exposed to harmful working substances in your profession?
Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Have you noticed symptoms such as a blinding sensation or a decrease in visual acuity?
- Do you notice a fading of colors and contrasts?
- Do you have blurred vision and/or distorted vision?
- Do you feel like you are looking through a frosted glass window?
Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.
- Are or were your eyes exposed to intense sunlight or other thermal effects?
- Do you eat a balanced diet?
- Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
Self history including medication history.
- Pre-existing conditions (eye diseases, metabolic diseases (eg, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism), injuries to the eye).

- Environmental history (intense solar radiation, infrared radiation, X-rays).
