Causes of caries in milk teeth

Milk teeth are particularly susceptible to the development of caries. The reason for this lies in the build-up of the hard tooth substance of milk teeth. Caries often manifests itself in babies or toddlers. Sugary drinks in the evening lead to rapid caries development and should be avoided. A dentist can provide information about proper and age-appropriate dental care for children.

Causes of caries of the tooth neck

Caries does not necessarily have to be present only at the crown of the tooth (= the area of the tooth in the mouth that can be seen above the gums), but can also manifest itself at the neck of the tooth. The neck of the tooth is the area of transition between the crown of the tooth and the beginning root of the tooth. Under normal circumstances, this area is covered by gums.

Caries at the neck of the tooth usually occurs when the gums have receded. The exposed areas of the tooth are particularly sensitive and are therefore often left out when brushing. The lack of cleaning can lead to caries formation at the tooth neck due to bacterial accumulation.
